- Wind & Weather, The Power of Nature, Georgian Bay

The iconic pines of Georgian Bay show a remarkable strength holding steadfastly against the power of the Georgian Bay winds and weather.  Despite their limited root system,  they hold a firm grip on the surrounding granite. Their resilience is something I’ve always found deeply compelling.

In this painting I wanted to convey the sense of mother nature's powerful energy. To capture the felt sense of changing energy. As the  weather moves through the scene it creates a physical sense of that shift in energy for the viewer. It comes from my own experience of traveling through Georgian Bay, where weather systems shift rapidly along the rugged shoreline, and you feel the power of mother nature all around you.  

This painting comes from a memory of a particularly windy cool afternoon as the sun was setting.  I’m always amazed by how much warmth the granite stores from the sun’s rays, especially when lying on the rocks to escape the wind and stay warm.  Moments like these stay with me, always.

This work is my way of connecting to that moment in time when I feel the power of nature as the weather shifts and then the landscape settles once again.
