... a defining moment

About the Artist

I didn’t discover painting until my late 30s, and it happened almost by accident. One afternoon, I borrowed my daughter’s watercolour set and painted a quiet scene of a sailboat anchored in a sheltered bay. When I looked up, three hours had passed. That moment of effortless focus — where everything else dropped away — became the start of something much larger.

Since then, painting has shifted from curiosity to a committed professional practice. My work is shaped by years of sailing, travel, and time spent outdoors, where light, atmosphere, and the character of a place stay with you long after you leave. Those experiences guide the choices I make on the canvas: the balance of intuition and structure, the simplicity that gives a scene its strength, and the sense of presence that invites a viewer to pause.

Collectors often tell me that my paintings feel honest and grounded — that they carry a quiet familiarity, as if they belong to a place they’ve known. Each piece begins with a lived moment connected to nature, then evolves into something meant to stand on its own and continue its story in a new home.

Artist Background

More than 25 years have passed since that unexpected moment with my daughter’s watercolour set. Today, after retiring from a meaningful career as a Parole Officer, I paint every day with purpose and commitment.

Like many artists, my journey grew from a long-standing appreciation for nature. In the early years, painting was simply a personal retreat. I explored different mediums and approaches, and each brushstroke became a way to translate what I noticed, understood, or felt into something visual and clear.

As time went on, I began sharing my work, and the response encouraged me to take the path more seriously. Collectors told me my paintings transported them into scenes that felt familiar and peaceful. That connection—watching a painting resonate with someone else—became one of the most rewarding parts of my practice.

Over the years, my work has entered private collections, and I’ve held two solo exhibitions, both of which sold out. These experiences strengthened my confidence and deepened my commitment to create even more paintings in the years ahead.

I am a self-taught artist, dedicated to continual self-study and refinement. I’ve spent years learning from influential painters, examining the foundations of design, and pushing my work toward a “less is more” approach. While I still view myself as emerging, I stand firmly on the trajectory of a dedicated professional—with a clear voice, a disciplined practice, and a body of work that continues to grow.

Life Experience & Perspective

Over the past several years, I’ve had the opportunity to travel extensively—living aboard a sailboat for multiple years, crossing Canada by RV, and visiting countries throughout Europe and beyond. These journeys have given me exposure to a wide range of coastlines, landscapes, and communities, each adding depth to the way I see and interpret the world on canvas.

These experiences have provided me with an extraordinary archive of reference material: quiet bays, open seas, mountain corridors, remote islands, and historic cities. The variety of places I’ve encountered continues to shape my work and deepen my appreciation for nature as a subject worth preserving and celebrating.

During my travels, I also came face-to-face with the challenges affecting many of the environments I visited. Rising sea levels have threatened the way of life for Indigenous families in the San Blas Islands. Reefs once full of colour are now bleached from warming waters. And across Western Canada, the impact of severe wildfires left a clear mark on residents and wildlife habitats alike. These experiences remain with me and influence how I paint.

I’m grateful for every place I’ve encountered, and I bring those memories into the studio each day. Painting allows me to highlight the strength and beauty found across land and sea, even in times of change. My intention is to create work that reflects the places that shaped me—and to offer collectors a reminder of how closely connected we all are to the environments we move through.

My Paintings

My work centers on contemporary landscapes, with an occasional shift into abstraction when I want to explore colour, movement, and freedom without structure. While landscapes remain my core focus, abstract studies often help me stay curious and expand my range as a painter.

I primarily work in acrylics, using professional-quality canvases and panels. During my years living aboard a sailboat and travelling in a camper van, limited space meant most of my early originals were small to medium in size. Now, with a dedicated studio and room to stretch out, I’m able to create larger works that reflect the scale and presence I’ve always envisioned.

In every painting, I aim to create a clear focal point. Thoughtful attention to values—how light and shadow move across the scene—helps build depth, simplicity, and a sense of place. These fundamentals guide each composition from the earliest block-in to the final stroke.

Before I begin a painting, I take a moment to settle into the scene. My paintings aren’t products to me; they’re part of a long practice of showing up, refining my craft, and bringing something new into the world. The hours invested in each piece shape the final result, and that commitment is something I take seriously.

I leave room for experimentation, knowing that every painting evolves through both intention and discovery. Like many artists, I navigate the tension between pushing a piece further and deciding when it’s complete. That balance—between striving and accepting—continues to drive my growth.

Today, I’m grateful to share my work with a wider audience.
Whether you are a long-time collector or exploring art for the first time, I invite you to spend time with these paintings. Each one reflects years of dedication, a love of the craft, and the ongoing pursuit of creating work that resonates long after the first glance.

 Mission Statement

My mission as an artist is to honour the beauty of nature by translating the moments I’ve experienced into paintings that feel genuine, focused, and intentionally crafted. Each piece begins with a real place that left an impression on me—landscapes and seascapes shaped by years of travel, exploration, and time spent outdoors. These scenes are chosen carefully, painted slowly, and created with the understanding that many of the places that inspire my work are increasingly fragile.

I strive to express the essence of a scene without excess, letting clarity, simplicity, and strong design guide each composition. By reducing a landscape to its most meaningful elements, my goal is to invite the viewer into a quiet moment of appreciation—one that reveals both the strength and vulnerability of nature.

Through my paintings, I hope to encourage a deeper awareness of how connected we are to the environments around us. By sharing these places on canvas, I aim to inspire respect, gratitude, and a sense of responsibility toward the land and sea that shape our lives and the lives of future generations.

Thank you for your support.

My chance to give back....

Contentment in Nature

I’m at my best when I’m surrounded by nature. Whether I’m in the woods or out on the water, that sense of ease is where everything settles. That’s the place my paintings come from — the moments when life slows down and nature becomes the anchor.

Every Painting Carries a Story

My work explores the freedom, wonder, and small, unforgettable moments found outdoors. Each piece reflects time spent in places that have shaped me, created with the intention of offering others the same quiet appreciation.

Giving Back Through Art

Nature isn’t just my inspiration — it’s something I feel responsible for protecting. That’s why I donate 10% of all website proceeds to conservation efforts, including forest preservation and sea-life restoration.

It’s one way I can give back to the very places that continue to influence and support my art.
